Late spring and early autumn, in the late afternoon, when the castle and the Sicilian coast turn gold and Chianalea's lanes fall into shade. In July and August the village is busy, so morning sessions in Chianalea are quieter. The castle keeps its own opening hours — check before you go. Reggio Calabria airport is about half an hour away.
