The Monte dei Cappuccini terrace
A hilltop church terrace across the Po with the whole city below — the Mole in the middle and, on clear days, the Alps behind.
About The Monte dei Cappuccini terrace
Get directionsMonte dei Cappuccini is the small hill on the right bank of the Po, crowned by the church of Santa Maria al Monte and the National Mountain Museum. The terrace in front of the church faces the city across the river, and it holds the view of Turin everyone knows: the Mole Antonelliana rising out of the rooftops, Piazza Vittorio Veneto opening towards the bridge and, on a clear day, the whole arc of the Alps behind, Monviso included.
For portraits the parapet is the place: people stand against it and the city falls away behind them. Move to either end of the terrace to put the Mole directly behind a couple rather than beside them.
The view faces west, so the best light is the last hour before sunset, when the façades turn warm, and the blue half-hour after, when the city lights come on. The walk up from the Gran Madre takes about ten minutes, and the terrace is quieter on weekday evenings.

Tips
Shoot from the ends of the parapet so the Mole sits behind the couple, not beside them. Come after rain or on a windy day for the clearest view of the Alps.
