The Salento is the tip of the heel, and its trick is that you can shoot sunrise on one sea and sunset on the other the same day. Otranto is the eastern anchor — a small walled town of white lanes, an Aragonese castle with a dry moat you can walk, and a cathedral whose entire floor is a twelfth-century mosaic of a tree of life laid by a monk named Pantaleone.
