Why Procida for Your Photoshoot
Procida is the smallest and least touched of the Bay of Naples islands — about four square kilometres, walkable end to end, and still a place where people fish and hang washing rather than run boutiques. Everything a camera wants is on the east side. Marina Corricella is a seventeenth-century fishing harbour whose houses climb the slope in ochre, pink, cream and faded blue, with arches, outside staircases and drying nets; no car can get in, so you arrive down a flight of steps and the quay stays quiet. Above it, Terra Murata is the walled high town at ninety metres, with the Abbazia di San Michele Arcangelo, the bulk of Palazzo d'Avalos — a royal palace that spent a century as a prison — and a belvedere that looks straight down onto Corricella's roofs. Marina Grande, where the ferry lands, is another pastel front, busier and more workaday. At the other end of the island, Marina di Chiaiolella curves round a small harbour with the wooded islet of Vivara across a footbridge. Procida was Italian Capital of Culture in 2022 and it fills up in August; from October to May you can have Corricella almost to yourselves.

Best time: Morning, while the sun is on the façades and the colours are at their strongest

Is Procida easy to get around, and how do we reach it?
Ferries and hydrofoils come from Naples and from Pozzuoli, the Pozzuoli crossing being the shorter one, and sailings are cancelled in rough weather, so leave slack around the shoot. On the island, Corricella and Terra Murata are reached only on foot, down and up long flights of steps, which rules out heels and heavy prams. Cars are restricted for visitors in summer, so check the current rules before bringing one over.
