About The old centre and Villa Trieste

Get directions

Catanzaro's old centre runs along the top of its ridge: Corso Mazzini, the main street, the cathedral and its square, and the churches and lanes around them, rebuilt more than once after earthquakes and wars but still full of character.

Villa Trieste, the city's oldest public garden, sits at the edge with tall trees, shaded paths and a view across the valley to the hills, with the sea in the distance on clear days. It is a calm, cool place for portraits on a hot afternoon.

The centre is busiest at the evening passeggiata; mornings and late afternoons are quieter. From the viewpoints on the city side, the arch of the Bisantis bridge makes a striking modern backdrop.

Best time to shoot

Morning, or late afternoon before the evening passeggiata

Tips

Combine the centre with the coast in one longer session โ€” the coves are about twenty-five minutes' drive away.
