The Sant'Antonio terrace at Conca dei Marini

Conca dei Marini is the quietest of the coast villages, a scatter of white houses on a headland between Amalfi and Praiano. Sant'Antonio sits below the main road on its own shelf of rock, reached by a long flight of steps, with a plain whitewashed terrace in front of it and a two-hundred-metre drop to the sea beyond.

The appeal is subtraction. There are no shops, no crowds, no competing colours — just white walls, a stone bell arch, a wrought-iron rail and the horizon. It is a favourite for elopements and small ceremonies for exactly that reason, and it photographs beautifully in the flat light of an overcast day as well as at sunset, when the whitewash takes the colour of the sky.

The steps are the catch: it is a genuine descent and climb, awkward in formal shoes and not possible for anyone with mobility limits. Parking is a handful of spaces on the SS163 above. The church is small and privately used for ceremonies, so check whether anything is booked before you plan the terrace as your main location; the neighbouring village lanes make a good fallback.
