Praiano sits on the corner of the peninsula where the coast turns from south-facing to west-facing. That single geographic fact is why the town has always been the sunset village of the Amalfi Coast: while Amalfi and Atrani lose the sun behind the mountain, Praiano keeps it until it drops into the sea beyond Capri.

The church of San Gennaro stands above the road with a broad terrace in front, paved in a geometric pattern of blue, green and white majolica. The tiles pick up the low sun and glow, the majolica dome sits behind, and the sea fills the whole background. Shoot along the terrace with the pattern receding, or from the steps below with the couple against the dome and the sky.

It is a working parish church: the terrace is public and free, but mass times and occasional weddings take priority, and it is polite to check before planning a session around it. Parking on the SS163 through Praiano is very limited and the town is strung along a kilometre of steep road, so allow time. The steps down to Marina di Praia, further west, are the natural second location once the light has gone.
