During this time, your photographer will guide you through different backdrops — perhaps starting at a scenic viewpoint, moving to a charming side street, and finishing at a waterfront or garden. The golden rule is to coordinate without matching — choose complementary colors and classic styles that reflect your personality. Solid colors and muted tones (navy, cream, sage, terracotta) photograph beautifully against Italy's warm-toned architecture and lush green landscapes. Avoid busy patterns, large logos, or neon colors that can distract from you as a couple. Comfortable shoes are essential, especially in Rome and Florence where cobblestone streets and hillside viewpoints are common. Bring a second outfit if you'd like variety — many couples change halfway through longer sessions. Golden hour — the hour after sunrise or before sunset — provides the most flattering, warm, romantic light and is universally recommended by professional photographers. In Italy, sunset times range from around 5:30pm in winter to 9:00pm in summer, so plan accordingly. Sunset sessions in Rome and Florence are especially popular because the westward-facing viewpoints catch the light over the river and rooftops beautifully. Sunrise shoots are quieter and give you famous landmarks nearly to yourselves, which is ideal for Siena or heavily touristed areas. Photoshoots on Lake Maggiore start from €319, with one- and two-hour packages running roughly €319 to €450 depending on the length and the number of edited photos. Boat time is the thing to plan around: an hour on the Stresa promenade needs no crossing, while adding Isola Bella or Isola dei Pescatori means budgeting for the ferry and the walk.

The terrace wall on Isola Bella, lined with potted citrus above the water, and the ten stone terraces behind it; the one narrow lane and fishing quay of Isola dei Pescatori; the plane-tree promenade at Stresa, which looks straight across at both islands; and the hillside gardens of Villa Taranto at Pallanza, twenty minutes up the shore by boat.

Late April to early June, when the azaleas and rhododendrons are out and the light is clear, and September, when the lake empties and the water stays warm. Shoot in the first two hours after sunrise: the lake is glassy, the islands are still closed to visitors, and the mountains behind Verbania have not yet hazed over. Late afternoon works too, with the sun behind the western shore.
