Photo spot in Positano
Path of the Gods viewpoint
The cliff-edge trail high above the coast, with the whole Amalfi shoreline and Capri laid out below — the big-landscape counterpart to the town.
About Path of the Gods viewpoint
Get directionsThe Sentiero degli Dei runs along the cliffs hundreds of metres above the sea, between Bocca di Serra (Agerola) and Nocelle, the hamlet perched above Positano. The name is not marketing: for most of its length the trail looks straight down the coast, with terraced vineyards clinging to the slopes, the sea filling the lower half of every frame, and Capri on the horizon. Two people on that path read as tiny figures in an enormous landscape — the exact opposite of the town's enclosed, detailed frames, which is why the two combine so well in one gallery.
Most photographers work the Nocelle end. You do not need to hike the whole route: the first stretch out of Nocelle already delivers the signature views, and walking from the Agerola side means the panorama opens progressively towards Positano, with the light behind you in the morning. In summer, morning is also the only sensible option — the trail is exposed, shadeless and hot by midday.
This is a real mountain path: uneven, narrow in places, with genuine drops and no railings. Proper shoes are non-negotiable, dresses are for changing into at the viewpoint rather than hiking in, and anyone uneasy with heights should say so before, not during.
Best time to shoot
Morning — the light comes from behind on the walk towards Positano, and summer heat arrives by midday
Tips
Real hiking path with real drops — proper shoes, and change into outfits at the viewpoint. No shade: carry water.
